How to Keep Flowers Fresh

When you buy flowers from the florist you never know if they are fresh or not. You don't know how long they will last before they begin to wilt and die. When you are buying something like food, you want to make sure that what you are buying is fresh and will last the while that you thought that that product would last. It is the same for flowers. You want your flowers to last as long as you can. For most people though it is difficult for them to tell what flowers are fresh and what flowers aren't.

The only indication that would key you into if a flower isn't the freshest is by seeing if the petals have been wilted. There are many tips on how to keep your flowers fresh. Some have speculated that dropping a sugar cupid into your water will allow the flowers to stay fresh longer. But that is only speculation since it hasn't really been proven yet. Another tip on keeping your flowers fresh is to put them into cold water and not hot water. Warm water will make you flowers wilt instead of keeping them fresh.

The Many Uses of Fresh Flowers

Some common usages to keep your flowers fresher longer are as follows. You can use a penny, an aspirin, or even lemon juice. The penny causes your flowers to stay fresher long due to the fungicide in the copper. That fungicide acts to preserve the flowers from too much fungi, and yeast. The aspirin will help to keep the bacteria level down, and the lemon juice is basically the same idea as the aspirin. It is also an acid that will help to keep the bacteria level down.

If you placed the flowers that you just bought into the refrigerator for six hours before putting them into an arrangement your flowers will last up to three times longer. If your flowers are wilted there is a way to bring them back from the wilted grave. You should take hot water, the water should be up to one hundred ten to two hundred degrees Fahrenheit. The more wilted that your flowers are the hotter the water should be.

How to Make Fresh Flower Arrangements

Unless you are cooling the flowers, which is when you want to cover your flower's stems all with water, then keep the water on your flowers less than six inches up the stem. You should then cut the stems of your flowers every couple to a few days to keep your flowers able to soak up more water in order to keep them fresher.

You should make sure that all the leaves and the foliage that is below the water line should be removed from the flower as the leaves will then begin to wilt faster which will then cause the rest of the flower to wilt even faster. Now you know a little bit more on how to keep your flowers fresher for longer. I hope you use this article the next time you have flowers that you want to keep longer.
